[edit] Summary
While attempting to return to Manhattan, Goliath is struck by lightning. When he regains consciousness, he and the other Avalon travelers discover that 40 years have passed, and Xanatos has wreaked havoc in the island. Goliath is rescued by an aged Matt Bluestone and Claw, but Elisa Maza and Angela are taken to the Eyrie Pyramid. They reveal that Hudson died as the first resistance fighter, and Brooklyn leads the clan with Demona at his side, Broadway was blinded in a battle against Dr. Sevarius and the Ultrapack, and Lexington has added cybernetic pieces to his body.
Throughout the battles against Xanatos, Goliath repeatedly refuses to use the Phoenix Gate to change history. During the battle, almost all of Goliath's allies are destroyed, and Xanatos reveals that he is really a computer program modeled after Xanatos created by Lexington.
When Elisa demands the Phoenix Gate, Goliath realizes it's a ruse and the entire landscape disappears, revealing Puck. Puck explains that with the coming of the Gathering, he needs the Gate to bribe Oberon in return for his freedom. The entire dream was a ruse to get Goliath to give it to him. Goliath wakes up, leaving him to wonder if Puck's landscape was an illusion... or a prophecy. Goliath uses the Gate to open a portal and send it randomly into time, losing it forever.
